Info on having children
There are a few things you need to know on the island about children, how children are conceived and the ins and outs of mates and mating rights. First off. Every creature on the island mates the same way. Though some are different. The merfolk lay eggs within the large waterfall lake in the middle of the islands forest. Those eggs are protected by the parents. There can be two eggs for each set of mates to keep well protected and hydrated. Merfolk can not take the egg out of the water and move it so the lake and waterfall are well guarded by the aquarius tribe to keep everything safe and secure. Then there are the other tribes that give birth instead of lay eggs.
Mating is simple. Each dominate person is able to have one mate. But the leaders of the tribes can have up to three different mates or more during mating season. The more mates a leader has the more children that leader will have. But once the mating is over the leader will have no further contact with the randomized mating season mates and all children born from the leader or their randomized mates will be adopted into the leaders family and raised to be the possible next cheif or empress or emperor of that tribe.
There are also many ceremonies to become a mate to a member of the tribe. Each tribe has their own ceremony and customary needs to perform said ceremony.
Like the tigress tribe. They are proud and strong willed. Depending on the mate they choose they will fight other suiter's who have their eyes on their mate and once all suiter's are taken down the "female" so to say will either decide you are worthy or not. It is totally different then human courting. You must fight for you love in that tribe.
The Thentis tribe mates for life. So they usually only have one mate and never are the kind of people that would choose multiple mates during mating season. If one mating canidate has multiple suiters then there is a competition to see who will win the hand of the "female". Litters at the most consist of two to three pups. Unlike their wild animal ancestors who can have up to five or six in a litter the Thentis are only limited to three at most.
The Aquarius tribe are mates for life as well. The aquarius usually have only one egg per year and their egg incubation lasts for about seven months out of the year. When the egg hatches it is a small child compared to the usual infant that the other races have. They mostly grow from infancy to about two years in the seven months the offspring is in its egg. At that time if the parents died in the forest or no longer want the child, one of the elder women in the tribe or the royal family will adopt them and care for them until they become adults which is roughly about twenty-one years of age.
The Carnivorous tribe is very much kind to their mates compared to popular belief. But there are some in the tribe that would eat someones mate if they were given the chance to. Carnivores are also very protective of their offspring. A carnivore is known to be very dangerous but also very respectful as well to their young. Carnivores will protect their mates and children from other carnivores if they have to in order to protect their lineage. A carnivore is able to give birth even if they are of reptilian descent. And they can have up to one or two infants at a time. Depending on certain events there is also a chance of a third child at one time but those are extremely rare.
Herbivores are weak in fighting skills but they are just as lovable to their offspring as any other tribe. From a young age Herbivores are taught the dangers of the forest outside of their village. They may be weak and helpless at times but some herbivores are strong. They mate for life just like the Thentis and Aquarius. They also have larger litters then the other tribes. Up to five children at one time actually.
Blood-dra are different compared to popular belief. They mostly only feed off those offering their blood as well as their mates. When a Blood-dra is born they are actually born without fangs. So they must be fed milk from their mother until their fangs come in. Which is about two years of age. When that happens they begin to feed of their parents since their parents blood gives the children the needed nutrients that a young blood-dra needs. When they hit their teenage years they can then be weined off their parents blood and depending on if their parents are animal blooders or tribal blooders then they will turn to that source of food.
Ventus consist of a mixture of different emotions. But they are known to be independent and strong. Especially their young. Some of them are independent after the first seven years of their lives. They take to hunting and gathering skills greatly but also are able to communicate with wild animals better. This tribe is known to be the great dragon caretakers. They care for the dragons and their offspring so most of the Ventus tribes children grew up around dragon hatchlings.
